Sarah Teather MP highlighting the problems of rubbish in Brent

Brent East MP Sarah Teather has today continued her campaign to clean up Brent by putting pressure on Brent Council to clean up Cricklewood Broadway. The MP's action follows a number of complaints from local shopkeepers and residents about the state of the area.

Local MP Sarah Teather is calling on the Council to take immediate action to deal with the fly-tips and abandoned cars that are causing so much concern to residents and traders.

Commenting Sarah Teather MP said:

"The Council must act now. The fly-tips on Cricklewood Broadway are a real eyesore and potential health hazard. Local shopkeepers are understandably worried about trade as the rubbish on the street makes the area unattractive to shop in.

"Unfortunately this is an all too familiar tale in Brent where years of Labour neglect have left a catalogue of fly-tips, abandoned cars and broken pavements. A Liberal Democrat controlled council would make street-cleaning a much higher priority and take positive action to clean up Brent.

"Liberal Democrats in Parliament have called for Councils to have powers to remove abandoned cars more swiftly. I shall be joining my colleagues in calling for these powers to be granted in Parliament, to help make Brent a cleaner place to live."

In response to calls for CCTV cameras to be installed in areas around Cricklewood Broadway, Sarah Teather MP commented:

"CCTV could be one positive step to alleviate problems. However CCTV alone is not the answer, we need a community based strategy incorporating a number of measures to really alleviate problems in our area. I am calling on the police and council to monitor closely Cricklewood Broadway so that residents and traders can feel safer."

Sarah Teather MP launched her campaign to 'Clean up Brent' before being elected and has vowed to continue the campaign which won the support of many residents in Brent East. By putting pressure on Brent Council Sarah Teather is continuing her commitment to clean up Brent.
